Possessives

Possessive adjectives — "my", "your", "his", "her"... — say who owns something. In Albanian they don't agree with the owner the way a verb ending does; instead each person (my/your/his/her/our/your-plural/their) is simply a separate word, and that word then agrees with the noun being owned: its gender, number and case.

For example, "my" has a masculine form (im) and a feminine form (ime) — the choice depends on the noun, not on who's speaking: libri im ("my book") but shtëpia ime ("my house").

As with demonstratives, genitive, dative and ablative all share one shape — only nominative and accusative are distinct.

Linking articles: every 3rd-person possessive (his/her/their) and every plural form carries a linking article — i or e — directly in front of it, the same way a Class 2 adjective does. 1st and 2nd person singular possessives (my, your) mostly go bare.
